Dankook University Shares AI-Driven Vision for the Future of Higher Education
Soon-Cheol An, President of Dankook University, was officially invited to attend the World University Presidents’ Forum held from July 7 to 9, hosted by Tamkang University in Taiwan. The forum, celebrating Tamkang University’s 75th anniversary, brought together presidents and senior leaders from 36 universities across 11 countries to discuss Digital Transformation and Sustainable Development in Higher Education. Key themes included the AI revolution, post-pandemic challenges, and the role of universities in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). President An emphasized that AI is a core driver of sustainability, beyond digital transformation, noting that Dankook University will launch a new Department of Artificial Intelligence and an AI Convergence Research Institute next academic year, alongside the development of an AI-driven campus. Participants agreed that universities must strengthen AI- and data-based digital learning systems, advance carbon-neutral and ESG strategies, and build open, multi-layered models of international cooperation to ensure sustainable growth in a rapidly changing global environment. Founded in 1950, Tamkang University is one of Taiwan’s leading private universities and has maintained active academic and student exchange partnerships with Dankook University since 1975.

Global Culture Exchange Night: Mexico, Chile, UK, Italy, Japan, China, Vietnam, Russia, and Germany
Dankook University successfully concluded its Global Culture Exchange Night, a multi-day event that brought together exchange students and DKU students for cultural sharing and global networking. Held from November 12 to 20 on the Jukjeon Campus, the program featured presentations from students representing Mexico, Chile, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, China, Vietnam, Russia, and Germany. Each session included cultural introductions, Q&A, and traditional snacks prepared by the exchange students. DKU students interested in international exchange or future study-abroad opportunities actively participated, gaining first-hand insights into partner university cultures and student life abroad. Following each presentation, attendees enjoyed a casual tasting and open conversation time, creating an engaging and friendly environment for cross-cultural interaction. The event was organized to promote global awareness and to strengthen connections between Korean and international students on campus.

Chuseok Workshop Offers Students a Taste of Korean Tradition
To celebrate Chuseok, Korea’s traditional harvest festival, the Office of International Affairs hosted a hands-on Songpyeon (half-moon rice cake) workshop on September 19 at Jiphyeonjae, the university dormitory. The event invited international students to experience one of Korea’s most cherished holiday customs by making and tasting their own songpyeon. Under the guidance of the event organizers, students learned how to shape the colorful rice cakes, fill them with sweet ingredients, and steam them to perfection. Due to high interest, participants were divided into three sessions throughout the afternoon, allowing everyone to enjoy the experience in a comfortable and engaging setting. Many students shared that it was their first time learning about Chuseok and that the workshop helped them better understand Korean culture while making new friends.

A Warm Welcome to Our Fall 2025 Exchange Students
As the Fall 2025 semester begins, around 200 new exchange students from nearly 30 countries arrived at Dankook University on August 25 to begin their studies in Korea! To help students adjust to campus life, the Office of International Affairs organized a week of welcoming events. The Welcome Lounge on August 26 offered a friendly setting for students to meet and receive guidance from the international office. The following day, on August 27, an Orientation session covered key topics such as course registration, dormitory life, and visa regulations, followed by a Campus Tour and small-group recreation activities that helped students get to know one another. On August 28, students visited the Korean Folk Village, where they experienced traditional performances and hands-on cultural programs. The week concluded with a lively Welcome Party on August 29, organized by the Dankook International Ambassadors (DIA), celebrating friendship and cultural exchange among participants. Dankook University will keep supporting exchange students to help them adapt well and enjoy campus life during the semester.

Global Cultural Festival Celebrates Diversity at Dankook University
On May 22, Dankook University hosted the 2025 Global Cultural Festival in front of Hye-Dang Hall, bringing together Korean and international students to celebrate the diversity of cultures represented on campus. Organized by the Office of International Affairs in collaboration with the university’s vibrant international student community, the festival featured a wide range of activities including world food booths, traditional costume experiences, cultural games, and a variety of live performances. Students enjoyed sampling traditional dishes from more than ten countries—such as Korea, China, Japan, Spain, Mexico, Hungary, Indonesia, and Vietnam—while also trying on cultural attire and taking photos in the themed photo zone. The afternoon program included a lively K-POP contest, a Culture Introduction Video Contest, an OX quiz, and a lucky draw with prizes and souvenirs, creating an atmosphere filled with energy and excitement. The event provided a meaningful opportunity for students to experience global cultures firsthand, foster mutual understanding, and strengthen the spirit of community at Dankook University. Many exchange students shared that it was one of the most memorable and enjoyable moments of the semester.

Students Enjoy a Cozy Evening at DIA Movie Night
Dankook International Ambassadors (DIA) held a Movie Night featuring Gwanghae: The Man Who Became King, to help international students better understand Korean history and culture. Students enjoyed the film in a relaxed setting while learning about Korea’s royal heritage and social values. The event aimed to provide both an educational and enjoyable cultural experience for exchange students at Dankook University.
