Introduction

Prof. Kang Jae-cheol received his BA and MA in Korean Literature from Dankook University and his Ph.D. in Korean Literature from Inha University (1993). He has served in the field in Korea at the Institute for Translation of Korean Classics and abroad at the Institute for Modern Literature at Marburq University in Germany (1981), and in other teaching and research positions. His primary research areas are classic novels, traditional culture, Korean poetry, etc. He has published numerous books on Korean folk tales, poetry and traditional culture, as well as more than 50 academic research articles in his field of interest. He previously served as chairman of the Dankook University Institute for Toegye Studies and as chairman or chief editor of research societies such as the Asian Comparative Folklore Society, etc.
