Introduction

Cellist Sung Eun Hong



Sung Eun Hong won prizes in many national competitions including Ewha, Kyung-hyang, and Seoul Philharmonic Auditions. After attending Seoul Arts High School for a year, she flew to the US, and won first places in New York National Competition and New York Artist International Audition, leading to her debut concert at Carnegie Hall. New York Times greatly complimented her mentioning "gifted with a rich penetrating tone and gritty intensity plus a formidable technique and eye-catching stage personality."

In 1983, she graduated from Julliard School of Music receiving both bachlor and master's degrees as a scholarship student. She also received a Master's degree from Hochschule Fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst In Wien under Andre Navarra. After winning second place in Italy Siena International Cello Competition, she came back to Korea in 1988, and played with KBS, Kang-reung, Kwang-ju, Busan, Bucheon, Daegu, Incheon, Jaeju, Junju, Pohang, Seoul Philharmonic, Gangnam Philharmonic, and Baroque Ensemble. She has also performed with Ulster Orchestra with Yan Pascal Totelier, Habarovsk Chamber Orchestra and Moskow Philharmony Orchestra from Rusia, and played more than thirty numbers of solo recitals in and out of the country. Her albums include 'Serenade' with short compositions of cello music, 'Bach Suite for Cello' in which she became the first to record the whole piece in Korea, and 'Reminiscences' which is a crossover album.

As a chamber music player, she was a cellist of Keumho Asiana Quartet and Korea Ensemble. Currently consultative member of Seoul Arts Center, the steering committee of Yongin City cultural department and professor at Dankook University.
