Introduction
Sooah Choi immigrated to the United States with her family and graduated from Campolindo High School. She then pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Upon her return to South Korea, she obtained a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in "Aesthetics of Dress" from the Department of Clothing & Textiles at Seoul National University. Her master's thesis was titled “Fusion Phenomena in Fashion” (2003), while her doctoral dissertation focused on the “Americanization and De-Americanization of Korean Fashion Since 1945” (2009).
Dr. Choi has extensive experience in designing womenswear, menswear, children's apparel, and toddler clothing through various industry-oriented projects and collaborations with companies. Her portfolio includes outdoor wear, sportswear, and casual wear, as well as cut-and-sew knitwear. She has worked as a designer for Sae-A Co., Ltd., one of the largest vendors in the world, collaborating with several major national companies in the United States. Her responsibilities included trend analysis and planning, design development, creation of prototype samples, and preparing presentations for buyers. Through direct communication via digital images, she successfully suggested designs that led to significant orders and recognition as one of the year's best vendor designs.
Since September 2011, Dr. Choi has served as a full-time faculty member at Dankook University, following extensive experience as a part-time lecturer at eleven different universities.
