21 projects launched to foster talent for future growth industries (11 in Gyeonggi-do, 10 in Chungnam) A total investment of KRW 54.85 billion by 2030 to establish a sustainable regional innovation hub

Dankook University has been selected for the Regional Innovation System for Education (RISE) project in Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheongnam-do, aiming to become a leading university in regional innovation that goes beyond academia, industry, and research.

The RISE project is a new university support system jointly promoted by the Ministry of Education, local governments, and universities to drive regional development. It is based on the strategy that “Good universities build good regions,” by fostering local talent and improving settlement conditions through close cooperation between universities and municipalities. With this selection, Dankook University will invest a total of KRW 54.85 billion over the next five years until 2030 to nurture innovation-driven talent tailored to regional industrial demands.

President SoonCheol An stated, “Our university, which has grown together with the local community, will realize a virtuous cycle of co-prosperity between the region and the university through the RISE project,” adding, “Based on specialized strategies for each campus, we aim to become a regional innovation hub that aligns with the region’s industrial needs and policy directions.”

Jukjeon Campus: Cultivating 32,000 Talents for Gyeonggi-do’s Future Growth Industries (G7/GX Fields)
Fostering unicorn companies through industry-academia R&D and technology transfer
Establishing the global DB-GAIA system for super-gap industry-academia-research alliances

By 2030, Jukjeon Campus will train approximately 32,000 talents in Gyeonggi-do’s key future growth industries—advanced mobility, digital transformation (DX), AI & big data, and semiconductors (collectively referred to as G7/GX industries). The goal is to enhance international competitiveness and emerge as a global knowledge export base by promoting industry-academia R&D, technology transfer, and international patents.

Key initiatives include
• G7/GX specialized practical talent training (development of interdisciplinary curricula, G-MOOC offerings, industry-linked specialized tracks)
• Establishing a joint research system for regional industry-academia collaboration and producing technology transfer outcomes
• Building the global DB-GAIA center for leading super-gap technologies
• Nurturing global unicorn companies and building a startup innovation ecosystem
• Expanding customized lifelong learning through the “On Gyeonggi University” platform
• Establishing a cooperative regional innovation governance system via the “Zoom In Center” platform

Vice President Ohyoung Kim (Director of Jukjeon RISE Project) stated, “By organically linking region, industry, and talent, we will enhance the competitiveness of both the university and the region and promote the cultivation of locally rooted talent,” adding, “Dankook University will play a central role in realizing a human-centered economy—Humonomics—by fully leveraging Gyeonggi-do’s strength in advanced industries and talent development.”

Cheonan Campus: Establishing New Contract Departments in Chungnam’s Future Growth Industries—Display, Carbon Neutrality, and Bio
• Building a Chungnam-style shared university system with 8 local universities and 42 faculty members

Cheonan Campus was selected for 10 projects under the Chungcheongnam-do RISE initiative, including the two core projects with the largest budgets:
1. Operation of Chungnam-style contract departments that guarantee local employment
2. Autonomous resolution of regional issues based on municipal-university agreements

Major initiatives include:
• Operating Chungnam-style contract departments with job guarantees
• Participating in Cheonan City’s smart city development project
• Promoting hydrogen industry in collaboration with Boryeong City
In particular, the contract departments are collaborative programs where universities and companies sign agreements to jointly select students and design curricula to cultivate talent tailored to industry needs. Dankook University plans to establish contract departments in Chungnam’s key growth sectors: next-generation displays, carbon-neutral energy, and bio convergence.

Vice President Dongheon Baek (Director of Cheonan RISE Project) said, “Through the Chungcheongnam-do RISE project, we aim to establish a sustainable cycle of growth that goes beyond simple talent development, connecting talent, universities, industries, and the region as one,” and added, “We will nurture professional talent in Chungnam’s future industries—display, carbon neutrality, and bio—and address the job mismatch by supplying talent aligned with regional industrial demand.”
