Dankook University was selected for the ‘2022 Intellectual Property Creation & Utilization Promotion Program’ hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Organization (KIPO). The program starts this year and lasts for 5 years until 2026, during which the university will be provided grant funding for a total KRW 500 million in state funds, receiving KRW 100 million each year.

The program offers comprehensive support for the creation and utilization of intellectual property. It is divided into categories, such as IP business development and patent-based start-ups. DKU was selected for the ‘Creation of Valuable Patents’ category.

As a participant in the program, Dankook plans to strengthen its position as a leading university in the business development of high-demand technology by conducting various projects that cover topics including securing outstanding intellectual property rights, early technology transfers, and acquiring overseas patent rights. More specifically, programs such as the Invention Interview Program, a two-step patent application examination system that engages external experts, and the Dr. DAN program that helps match researchers with technologies the university has identified as being in high demand, are scheduled to be implemented. In addition, DKU plans to introduce the Patent Prosecution Highway to accelerate examination of patent applications and build an integrated business support system that includes training and consulting for inventors.
