Dankook University was selected for phase three of the Leaders in INdustry-University Cooperation initiative (LINC 3.0) led by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea. DKU was specifically chosen for the ‘Customized Growth’ area, which focuses on development of talent and cooperation with industry to meet the demands of businesses and future society. As part of the initiative, the university will receive 4 billion KRW each year in government funding until 2027 (estimated total of 24 billion KRW).
In addition to being selected for phases one and two, Dankook strengthened its position as a true leading university in industry-academia cooperation by being picked for a third time. Based on its success in phase one (2012~2016, 23 billion KRW) and phase two (2017~2021, 20 billion KRW), DKU has created a solid industry-academia cooperation model across the Seoul metropolitan area all the way down to the Chungcheong provinces, which is part of what led to being selected to take part in the third phase.
In particular, Dankook was chosen as an excellent example of building a sharing and cooperative governance system, strengthening relationships with hub institutions, setting up a sharing system for patents, equipment, and information, supporting late-starter universities, and promoting contribution with local communities to renew and expand its system as a leading university in sharing and collaborating with industries.
In addition to government funding, Dankook University plans to invest 10 billion KRW in matched funds and 1 billion KRW in start-up funding during the project period to drive comprehensive cooperation with businesses. Building on the spirit of the great thinker Jeong Yak-yong of seeking truth from facts (實事求是) and applying morality to practical affairs (經世致用), DKU plans to build and operate a leading model for industry-academia partnerships by constructing five parks for the five areas of talent development, start-ups, technology transfers, corporate partnerships, and sharing and collaboration.
