Sungsoo Kim, Yoosun Chung, Eunhye Ko and Kunseob Kim win silver, bronze and honorable mentions, each respectively.

Four students from Dankook University’s Department of Communication Design (Sungsoo Kim – senior, Yoosun Chung – senior, Eunhye Ko – senior, Kunseob Kim – junior) were awarded with the silver, bronze and honorable mentions at the 9th IDA (International Design Awards)

IDA is a design contest held by the Farmani Group in the U.S. that selects its winners in LA during the first half of every year. It is a highly reputable award that recognizes outstanding talent in architecture, interior and graphic design etc with entries submitted from scores of countries each year.

Sungsoo Kim used the symbolic contrast of life and death to address water shortage issues and won the silver award. Kim said that “it is the most rewarding to know through the outcome that my intentions (behind my work) have been shared with others,” and added that he “wants to continue to create works that many people can relate to.”

Yoosun Chung took the bronze for her decalcomania which portrayed GMO (genetically modified organisms) as OMG! (oh my god) to stress the danger of genetically modified organisms. Chung commented that “two years ago, I received an honorable mentioning at this competition, and it feels great to win the bronze this year. I wish to continue to use my talents to do work that can contribute to the world.”

Meanwhile, Eunhye Ko and Kunseob Kim each respectively received honorable mentions for their work; Ko for a series that addressed global warming and Kim for work emphasizing the value of equity.
