Dankook University is taking its first step toward nurturing talent in what some call the ‘next-generation internet revolution’ - the blockchain industry.

On May 29, 2018, Dankook signed an agreement with the Korea Blockchain Industry Promotion Association (KBIPA, Chairman of the board Hyungjoo Kim) for an industry-academia partnership to foster talent in the blockchain industry, which is attracting attention as the technology that will drive the fourth industrial revolution.

Blockchain, known as one of the core technologies of the fourth industrial revolution, is a decentralized data storage technology that records transactions transparently in ledgers accessible to everyone and copies and stores it on multiple computers.

Multiple computers validate records which results in excellent security, which is the reason the technology is in the spotlight for improving system operations and increasing potential for creating new markets. In particular, the technology is being reviewed by various fields, thanks to its extensive scope and endless possibilities, for applicability in areas such as finance, insurance, distribution and trade in the food industry, and sharing hospital records, to name a few.

“As connectivity becomes more widespread in the age of the fourth industrial revolution, hacking is expected to become a serious issue and blockchain technology is essential in addressing this,” said DKU President Hosung Chang. He added that “By cultivating professional talent to lead the domestic and overseas blockchain markets, Dankook University will also be at the forefront of the fourth industrial revolution.”

Chairman of the board Hyungjoo Kim of KBIPA commented that “blockchain technology can be used in various areas including smart contracts, digital currency, securities and voting systems and will enable efficient management of academic systems when applied to university administration. Through mutual cooperation with DKU, we look forward to fostering outstanding blockchain specialists.”

DKU and KBIPA plan to work together through the MOU to build a relevant industry ecosystem and nurture technology specialists to spread the use of blockchain technology.
