The 2016 fall commencement took place at the Jukjeon and Cheonan Campuses, each respectively, on Wednesday, August 24th.

A total 1,604 (912 in Jukjeon, 692 in Cheonan) students received their bachelor’s degree while 184 (119 in Jukjeon, 65 in Cheonan) received their master’s and 97 (57 in Jukjeon, 40 in Cheonan) were awarded their doctorate degrees at the ceremony.

During his speech at the graduation ceremony, Dankook University president Jang Hosung said that he “sincerely congratulates all of the graduates” and went on to say that “artificial intelligence is advancing at lightning speed as it has come under the spotlight once again after AlphaGo. The structure of industries as we know it is expected to change going forward. No longer will there be a concept of lifelong careers. We will need our own personal networks to handle everything from design to manufacturing, and planning to performance in the future. Amid such change, I look forward to you continuing your challenge to learn new things and contributing to society, the nation and humanity with your creative thinking as Dankook graduates.”

Various acknowledgements such as the Honorary Achievement Award, summa cum laude and Bumjeong Academic Thesis Award were also presented during the commencement ceremony. In particular, parents that made special efforts in teaching their children were also recognized with the ‘Proud Parents’ award while foreign students who made remarkable achievements were given the ‘Global Frontier’ award.

From the Jukjeon campus, Hyung Jae-sung, the father of Hyung Jung-hyun, a graduate of the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the College of Engineering won the Proud Parents award while Kim Kyung-sook, mother of Kwon Doo-an, a graduate of the Department of Ceramics, was named the honorable recipient from the Cheonan Campus. The Global Frontier award was given to Ryeo Ki from the College of Arts and Design’s Department of Fashion Merchandise Design in Jukjeon and to Karina from the Department of Russian Language in Cheonan.
