The journey of challenging from DKU Android Project team, acquiring silver medal at the first SKT Android Application competition
Smart phone has taken place itself as a representative trend and icon in all over the world, expanding types of mobile applications. The size of application open market, so called "New Continent of Columbus in the 21st century" is now being developed. As an interest of mobile applications with a huge boom of smart phone in all over the world increases, the first T store Android application competition, held by SK telecom on last May results in a silver medel, accomplished by a DKU Android Project team consisting of students majoring in computer engineering. Here are interview contents from Hyun Woo Park, Seung Bae Han, and Sung Hoon Kang (the seniors majoring in computer engineering).
▶ DKU Android Project team
Team leader, Hyun Woo Park, who has been preparing for embedded project related to his major (senior majoring in computer engineering) was motivated from his cousin, who worked at mobile related industry, to develop applications. He said, "I prepared with teammate who were interested in Android applicatios, which were relatively known less than ones from other brands. Not like other competitions, we were ready for this competition in a sense that it had an equal opportunity to win." With same goals, 6 of students made common motivation to prepare high quality portfolio before graduating, starting to develop applications.
Android application named Dan Travel, winning silver medal in the competition after hard work, provides various information for those of who prepare for trip. Motel, air plane tickets, information of the tour spot in the internet are gathered by category, assisting to thoroughly prepare trip. In addition, one of the program in twitter named SNS is linked, providing additional function to easily find travel companion for the same purpose.
Dan Travel is known for its equal horizon with customers in their 20s. What was there in Dan Travel to get silver medal, beating competition for many of professional application developers? Hyun Woo Park brings up an 'liberal idea for college students' for the ground of success. He said, "even though Dan Travel was not perfectly programmed or designed, I think it achieved higher score from practicality and uniqueness being differentiated from other applications."
It has been 6 months since they developed an application, and they express concerns regarding a new wave of application development.
"Most of the people disregard the fact that a high quality application comes from technological knolwedge at some degree and a hard work. I am worrying for those who start developing application merely because it looks easy to develop one," (Hyun Woo Park)
"A lot of people take easy on the results of application developments. It takes so much time to develop a tiny single mobile application along with hard work. Identifying and correcting errors being found in the middle of processes are as difficult as developing a new application." (Seung Bae Han)
Young engineers do not hesitate for analyzing a new wave of application development. These young engineers with bright future in their spring times provide various answers as to their goals in their lives. Hyun Woo Park wants to be a specialist in the field of R&D after intensive study in his major, Seung Bae Han wants to exploit knowledges from this major in the field of finance, and Sung Hoon Kang already achieved an internship at one of the leading industries in Korea. There were various Idreams for those students with expected future. "I would like to make a great challenge out of every single precious opportunity. I think it is a privilege of student challenging without considering failure with a strong will." (Sung Hoon Kang)
