Studying with Foreign Students on Campus during Vacation
100 Foreign Students and DKU Students in Attendance

This is Dankook University during vacation…

Contrary to expectations of an empty campus, Jukjeon Campus was filled with students even during the vacation. What catches one’s eye is the proportion of foreign students.

Dressed appropriately for the hot Korean summer, they easily associated with each other and with Dankook University students on campus.

These are foreign students from Dankook’s sister universities participating in the International Summer School (ISS) operated by Dankook University every summer.

Dankook University’s ISS is quickly becoming the driver of the university’s internationalization.

ISS, in its 5th year of operation, was held this year from June 24 to August 9, and about 1,000 students including 200 foreign students from sister universities participated. ISS is composed of English Village (an English conversation study program), the Academic Program (academic courses conducted entirely in English), and the Korean Culture Program. ISS is dedicated to building global networks by facilitating the improvement of foreign language skills and cultural exchange by giving students from around the world an environment within which they can associate and share with each other.

ISS operates a total of four programs.

English Village(EA) is an English language learning program in which university students from DKU’s sister universities in English-speaking countries teach Dankook students. This creates an opportunity for foreign students and DKU students to join each other in classes, meals, and excursions, using English in real-life situations and learning each other’s culture. EV runs for about three weeks and consists of groups of one foreign student and 3~5 DKU students meeting five days a week for two hours of daily classes.

Academic Program is a four week academic lecture program conducted entirely in English and taught by professors from overseas sister universities. This program provides 3 hours of daily lectures four days a week and offers a good opportunity for DKU students preparing for overseas study to experience university lectures as they are given in other countries.

Intensive Korean Language and Culture Program was developed to help foreign students learn Korean culture and Koran language over a period of about three weeks.

International Summer Research Program is mainly conducted for undergraduates and graduate school students who wish to do research on various subjects participating in a research team. It is held for about nine weeks and is executed roughly from the end of June to the beginning of September.
