Overseas Volunteer Team volunteers in Cambodia, Laos, and Mongolia

The Dankook University Overseas Volunteer Team has spread love and sharing to neighbors in difficult remote areas around the world again this year.

112 members in this year’s team from Jukjeon Campus, divided into two groups, visited Cambodia and Laos for 14 days during the vacation. They visited Siem Reap in Cambodia from June 22 to July 5, and following that, they volunteered in Vientiane, Laos from July 13 to 26.

Each overseas volunteer group set up camp respectively at Pray School and Taktok School in Cambodia and at Tanak School and Nukneo School in Laos, teaching mathematics, science, music, art, physical education, and health to local children. In addition, they remodeled and newly painted the worn-out facilities and buildings. Also, centering around the students who participated in last year’s educational volunteer activities, the teams delivered stationery items to the local schools so that students there could enjoy education in a better environment.

Cheonan Campus’s team dispatched 107 volunteers to Mongolia, a land of vast plains.

Dankook University students worked hard to improve the environment and participated in educating local residents. Also, Dankook students majoring in Mongolian Studies who were studying abroad in Mongolia, along with Korean Department students of National Mongol University joined the volunteer group as interpreters. Especially, the dental medical volunteer team composed of DKU Dental School professors, nurses and prosthetists received high compliments from the locals by providing dental checkups, tooth extractions, and endodontic treatment/prosthetics for the local residents who lived in areas with poor medical facilities.

92 students of Dankook University’s Student Volunteer Team, which has doubled its membership since last year, not only provided volunteer services teaching Korean, English, Science, Physical Education and Art to local residents, but also worked on improving the environment by setting up billboards, fixing water heaters and painting buildings. Volunteers provided educational services to about 350 local children in two separate groups of youngsters and elementary school students. Also, they opened a village party for local residents and introduced Korean traditional food to them. Furthermore, they delivered about 3,000 products including bicycles, clothes, sporting goods and stationery to the local residents and filled their hearts with the warmness of Dankook people.
