Held for 2 days from Jan 4~5 at Pyeongchang Alpensia Resort

Taking the lead in nurturing prospective ski stars to shine during the 2018 Winter Olympics

Elementary school skiers gathered at the Alpensia Resort in Pyeongchang during winter break. Baby-faced but full of determination, these children came to participate in the 9th Joong-jae Bae National Elementary School ski competition that was held for two days from January 4th to 5th.

This year, more than 200 young skiers took part in the competition to show off their hard work and long hours of practice. The Joong-jae Bae ski competition is known for contributing to strengthening the foundation of ski as a sport in Korea and identifying rising ski stars to prepare for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

There are 5 athletes currently on the national ski team that formerly competed in the Joong-jae Bae ski competition including Dongwoo Kim (Alpine, Korea National Sport University); Sohee Kim (Alpine, Dankook Univ); Eunhwa Cho (Alpine, Yonsei Univ); Youngseo Kang (Alpine, Sungil Girl’s High School) and Dongkwan Hong (Alpine, Dankook Univ). In addition, there are three reserve players on the national Alpine ski team (Seungpyo Lee, Jeonghyun Choi, Jinsol Roh) and one on the cross country team (Eunji Kim), as well.

This year marks the 9th year of the Joong-jae Bae National Elementary School ski competition which started in 2008 by students wishing to commemorate Joong-jae Choongsik Chang (Chairman of the Dankook Foundation) who has consistently dedicated his life and made investments into advancing winter sports in Korea.
