More than 230 foreign students from 15 countries such as the U.S., Germany and China visited Dankook University for international exchanges
Global Village builds foreign language proficiency and international mindsets in Dankook students

School was out for the summer, but Dankook University was still busy and full of excitement with more than 230 international students roaming the campus. They were foreign university students from more than 15 countries including the U.S., Germany and China who had come to take part in the ‘DKU ISS (International Summer School)’ program.

Started in 2009, this is the sixth year of DKU ISS hosting international students to study side by side with Korean students and learn Korean culture during summer break. This year, around 230 students from abroad stayed at Dankook dormitories to participate in DKU ISS from June 19th to August 24th.

DKU ISS consists of three key programs; IKLCP (Intensive Korean Language and Culture Program), the Academic Program and Global Village. The Global Village, the highlight of DKU ISS, was the most popular among both Dankook students and their international counterparts.

The Global Village matches one foreign student with 3~4 Dankook University students to form a small group for language and cultural exchanges. Dankook students were able to choose from students whose primary language was English, Spanish, German and Russian and engage in lessons with them to sharpen foreign language skills. It was a great experience for all students alike to learn not only language, but also different cultures.

Jaedong Lee, the Dean of International Affairs, commented that “Dankook is strengthening its position as a leading educational institution in the world through DKU ISS” and added that “it is a wonderful chance for foreign students to experience Korean culture and Dankook students to strengthen their global skills.”
