• Students wishing to study at Dankook University as an exchange student need to be nominated by their home university first. Nominations are only accepted from DKU partner universities.
  • Exchange student nominations must be submitted by the exchange coordinator or the study abroad adviser. The nomination details include student’s full name, email address, period of study, academic major and intended field of study.
  • Students need to meet the following requirements to be nominated:
    • enrolled as a full-time student at their home university
    • have completed at least two semesters in university education
    • have a GPA of at least 2.5 out of 4.5 or equivalent
    • have a good language proficiency in Korean or English (proof is not required)
  • The deadlines for nominations are October 30 for fall semester and April 30 for spring semester.


  • After being nominated, students will receive an email that contains a link to our DKU application portal for completing an online application. Students will need to upload the following documents in their application:
    • Passport
    • Certificate of Enrollment
    • Academic Transcripts
    • Study Plan (☜ Click to Download the template)
    • Bank Statement
    • Identification Photo
  • The application deadlines are November 15 for fall semester and May 15 for spring semester.


  • Students’ application will be processed within one and a half month from the application deadline. The processing of application can be delayed if we are missing the required documents. And in this case, students will be contacted with information about what is missing and what action needs to be taken.
  • Students will receive a decision on their application by December 20 for spring semester and June 20 for fall semester. After being accepted, students will receive their their acceptance letter and certificate of admission by email visa purposes.


  • After being accepted and given the acceptance letter, students will need to visit the Korean embassy or consulate in their home country to obtain a D-2-6 exchange-student-visa. Obtaining a student visa is required for every non-Korean student wishing to study in Korea.
  • Students are advised to contact the nearest Korean embassy or consulate general in advance to find out the required documents and avoid any confusion or delay before applying for visa. Visa fees may apply.
  • Dankook University does not guarantee visa issuance for students.

Health insurance

  • All incoming exchange students must have a health insurance that covers the period of their stay in Korea. Students are required to purchase their own health insurance in their home country and submit proof of health insurance before coming to Korea.
  • The insurance policy should cover sickness, accident and death. Student should also make sure to know how the health insurance works if any medical problems occur.

Tuberculosis test

  • In accordance with the requirements of the Korean Immigration Service and our on-campus housing regulation, students are required to submit proof of an authorized tuberculosis test (through X-ray, skin or blood) result that is taken within 60 days prior to their arrival in Korea.
  • Students will be asked to attach the scanned copy of their tuberculosis test result on the online application later in February for Spring Semester and August for Fall Semester.
