Seong-Wan Park holds a B.S. (Yonsei University 1990), M.S.C.E degree (Georgia Tech 1995), and a Ph.D. (Texas A&M University 2000), all in civil engineering. He has been on the faculty of the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Dankook University since 2003. Dr. Park also worked as a senior researcher at the Korea Institute of Construction Technology under Korean Government.
Dr. Park has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering and transportation infrastructure analysis and design. Dr. Park also has research interests in testing and modeling of soils and geomaterials, characterization of unbound aggregates, modeling of particulate media using discrete and finite element methods, unsaturated soil mechanics, and mechanistic-empirical approach based foundation design. He has conducted several studies on stress dependency of geomaterials affecting structural response and performance of layered systems. Dr. Park has also been working on suction stress characterization of unsaturated soils.
Dr. Park currently serves on ISSMGE Technical Committee 106(Unsaturated soils) and 202(Transportation Geotechnics) and KGS committee on unsaturated soils. He is a recipient of the ARTBA(American Road and Transportation Builders Association) student paper award, KSCE(Korean Society of Civil Engineers) paper award, KSRE(Korean Society of Road Engineers) paper award and the 2009 best teaching award from the Dankook University, 2015 KSRE Academic Award, 2016 KGS Academic Award, 2018 KGS (Korean Geotechnical Society) paper award, 2020 Outstanding Research Award from Ministery of Education.
