Professor Sun Yi Oh of oriental painting department won the president's award, the grand prize, in the 5th Disabled People's National Culture and Art Contest held on October 15th. In the 5th Disabled People's National Culture and Art Contest held on October 15th, professor Sun Yi Oh of oriental paintings department won the president's award, the grand prize. Disabled People's National Culture and Art prize of Ministry of Culture, Sport, and Tourism is for disabled artists who overcome the adversity and acknowledge through the energetic artistic activities. This year's winner is professor Sun Yi Oh, the first professor of the mouth and foot painting artists, who is working steadily on her pieces. The committee members explained the grounds for the selection of the winner, "It is an outcome of the challenge that overcome the adversity as a hardworking professor who ceaselessly present works in the situation of painting with feet instead of hands, and she exemplified herself as a professional artist with disability." ▶ Professor Sun Yi Oh(Department of Oriental Painting) The disabled person who lost arms from the accident on the railroad in 3 years old. A mouth and foot painting artist. Introduced in the primary school Morals textbook as 'Sun Yi who overcome the adversity and achieved the dream.' We met professor Sun Yi Oh who is carrying energetic works holding more than ten exhibitions a year. "I don't like to attract too much attentions because of my disability. I don't want to look different and special. My story is very well known as to be shown in the textbook, but I don't think I am different from others." Making her way through thornbush with vigor, professor Oh was absorbed in the passion for her works and training younger students. Mainly running ink painting and the painting in the literary artist course, she paints with the brush between her toes while sustaining her body on one foot or sitting on the table. For her, feet plays bigger role than feet and hands of others. Professor Oh started practicing writing with pencil between her toes after entering the elementary school and could paint with brush since 4th grade. She had suffered from pain in her toes but the painting has always been the means of savory. She won the grand prize in the national high school student's painting contest and then entered the oriental paintings department in Dankook University in 1986. "I hate to be discriminated against the disability, but I hate even more to receive condescending kindness." Professor Oh says manifold effort is required to overcome the prejudice. The campus life for professor Oh was full of cutthroat battles with herself. Professor Oh graduated summa cum laude in 1990 with all A grades not only in her major but the other liberal arts courses including Korean, management, and law studies. Studying abroad in China after graduating from the university was another challenge. As the relation between Korea and China was not so much active, Chinese professors were astonished by her for three time: she was from South, not North, Korea, she was a female, and she didn't have arms. The doubtful professors suggested a practical examination immediately. When Oh started to paint with a brush between her toes, they appreciated her ability. After 2 years of language training, she attained master's and doctoral degrees in landscape painting during National Chinese University of Arts located in Hangzhou, China, for 10 years from 1994. When returning to Korea, Oh became a professor in her alma mater in 2006 through the period of part-time instructor. Professor Oh does not hesitate to be a mentor or a senior. She never misses the school event such as freshmen orientation, and department membership training. As for outdoor sketch during a night and 2 days, she also selects the good landscape to be taken in her paintings having arrived at the site even before other professors or students do. With these passion and devotion, professor Oh is working as a head of the department since last year for 2 years. Professor Oh is famous for proliferating artist. She is often absorbed in her creative work in her office even after classes. Having held individual exhibition every year since 2007, Oh is conducts a passionate creative works participating in average more than 10 exhibitions every year. "With the delicately refined expression of the ink, nimbly depicted silence, it is astonishing that she enhances the quality of the stroke of the brush whose strength is subtly controlled by feet," says Jeong Ran Jang, the art critic. The landscape paintings of professor Oh attracts the viewers. It is wonderous that she paints by controlling the strength of the touch of the brush with feet. "I've received plenty of helps from people around, and it is the goal of my life to keep changing without staying in the same position" says professor Oh. "I'll keep working on my works and caring for fostering young students to respond to the concerns and supports of many people," concluded professor Oh, who delivers hope with works that contains her life philosophy, rather than hundreds of words.

In general, OLED displays consist of red, green, and blue luminous elements for display devices. So far, red and green luminous elements have been developing high efficiency elements with more than 20% of quantum efficiency, while blue colored elements have lower than 10% of efficiency, having a serious difficulty regarding an increase of consumed electricity. In order to solve efficiency problem of blue colored elements, the team led by professor Jun Yeop Lee in Dankook University, proceeding a research regarding a new luminous blue colored elements, developing 18.4% of quantum efficiency by significantly enhancing the efficiency of previous element followed by using a new materials after improving structures of previous elements, and finally developed a new blue colored elements with the highest efficiency in the world. Especially, based on the fact that the previous elements show lower efficiency in the luminance range compared to the max efficiency that they have, there was an enhancement in terms of application with new elements, establishing more than 20% of efficiency in the luminance range and unique characteristics of blue colored elements that are applicable to products. Currently, there is no applicable blue colored element that shows the efficiency of more than 20%. This research expects AMOLED, currently applicable to smart phone, to lower its consuming electricity in a significant level, contributing to an enhancement of consumed electricity of OLED TV for the future reference Professor Joon Yeop Lee said "we are proceeding technology transfer with mutual negotiation with companies in both domestic and abroad," and he also said "localization of OLED materials and competitiveness of related industries will be enhanced through this research."

The journey of challenging from DKU Android Project team, acquiring silver medal at the first SKT Android Application competition Smart phone has taken place itself as a representative trend and icon in all over the world, expanding types of mobile applications. The size of application open market, so called "New Continent of Columbus in the 21st century" is now being developed. As an interest of mobile applications with a huge boom of smart phone in all over the world increases, the first T store Android application competition, held by SK telecom on last May results in a silver medel, accomplished by a DKU Android Project team consisting of students majoring in computer engineering. Here are interview contents from Hyun Woo Park, Seung Bae Han, and Sung Hoon Kang (the seniors majoring in computer engineering). ▶ DKU Android Project team Team leader, Hyun Woo Park, who has been preparing for embedded project related to his major (senior majoring in computer engineering) was motivated from his cousin, who worked at mobile related industry, to develop applications. He said, "I prepared with teammate who were interested in Android applicatios, which were relatively known less than ones from other brands. Not like other competitions, we were ready for this competition in a sense that it had an equal opportunity to win." With same goals, 6 of students made common motivation to prepare high quality portfolio before graduating, starting to develop applications. Android application named Dan Travel, winning silver medal in the competition after hard work, provides various information for those of who prepare for trip. Motel, air plane tickets, information of the tour spot in the internet are gathered by category, assisting to thoroughly prepare trip. In addition, one of the program in twitter named SNS is linked, providing additional function to easily find travel companion for the same purpose. Dan Travel is known for its equal horizon with customers in their 20s. What was there in Dan Travel to get silver medal, beating competition for many of professional application developers? Hyun Woo Park brings up an 'liberal idea for college students' for the ground of success. He said, "even though Dan Travel was not perfectly programmed or designed, I think it achieved higher score from practicality and uniqueness being differentiated from other applications." It has been 6 months since they developed an application, and they express concerns regarding a new wave of application development. "Most of the people disregard the fact that a high quality application comes from technological knolwedge at some degree and a hard work. I am worrying for those who start developing application merely because it looks easy to develop one," (Hyun Woo Park) "A lot of people take easy on the results of application developments. It takes so much time to develop a tiny single mobile application along with hard work. Identifying and correcting errors being found in the middle of processes are as difficult as developing a new application." (Seung Bae Han) Young engineers do not hesitate for analyzing a new wave of application development. These young engineers with bright future in their spring times provide various answers as to their goals in their lives. Hyun Woo Park wants to be a specialist in the field of R&D after intensive study in his major, Seung Bae Han wants to exploit knowledges from this major in the field of finance, and Sung Hoon Kang already achieved an internship at one of the leading industries in Korea. There were various Idreams for those students with expected future. "I would like to make a great challenge out of every single precious opportunity. Focus on the systemized education and practical stage experience "In order to achieve what they want in the future, there are several stages to take. One of the short cut to achieve dream is to take step by step, overcoming obstacles with a strong will even though such steps do not seem to be needed right in the moment." ▶ Professor Gi Young Lee(Department of Music) This is the reason why professor Lee teaches theories as well as practical training in the major of live music at Chun-Ahn campus. Systemized academic theory and concepts lay a firm foundation for students after graduating and when they build career on themselves. Professor Lee has proceeded "live music practice-composition" class and "performance" class at the same time during the last year, winning Best Teaching Award based on lecture evaluation from students. The performance class promotes students to design concert, providing an opportunity for them to have stage experience, and the live music-composition class is based on the systemized study for overall items for music production. Especially, the composition class touches overall items for music production exploiting computer based on composition. "Recently, music industry has a new trend to have one person musician via developments of music technology exploiting eletronic music. I think it is my role to teach students regarding this trend, helping them adjust such a new environment to produce music on their own." As an environment of popular music industry exchanges a lot, there are many of theories that students should learn along with musical skills, professor Lee adopted course-related lectures covering topics from freshmen year to senior, making an academic environment for systemized study. Solving problems in various angles and repeating processes ultimately convey students a solid unification of knowledge out of fractions. Professor Lee has emphasized this point. "During the class, I help students know what is really important for themselves without exterior support via mini-report presentation. Since practical music has a wide range of academic field, there are plenty of cases for students not figuring out what they really want to be, so I at lease want to help them set up personal goals. Listening to students and figuring out their own aptitudes are also effective ways." "I want to cultivate professional practical musicians, contributing their talents into an advanced level of popular music based on music theories and systemized education with firm academic ground. We expect the passion and aspiration of professor Lee, communicating with students in their own horizons, to ultimately lay grounds for strengthen capability of students.
