Understanding Mongolian Studies
Shared various opinions on undergraduate studies, exchange student opportunities, career path and job search

Mongolian Studies Department held the 2012 Mongolian Studies Department-Parent Info Session in the Central Lecture Room of Humanities Hall at Cheonan Campus on June 2 at 1pm. This event was held with about 50 parents of Mongolian Studies students present. The goal was to help parents gain a more comprehensive understanding of the Department of Mongolian Studies and to give a chance for university members and parents to share opinions on students’ college life and career path.

The event included explanations on the curriculum, exchange student opportunities and Mongolian Studies program, career path after graduation, etc., followed by a Q & A session. Also, parents had a chance to tour the main facilities such as the dormitory and library, and experience the culture and traditional foods of Mongolia in Cheonan Campus’ own Ger (traditional Mongolian tent).

At this event, parents showed great interest in explanations of future prospects and career paths for students of Mongolian Studies. Department professors who attended the event portrayed a bright future for students, saying that only 2 universities in the nation, including Dankook University, offer Mongolian Studies. Compared to the recent growth in numbers of Mongolians entering Korea and domestic companies advancing to Mongolia, there is currently a very limited number of experts, which has resulted in a rapid rise in the employment rate of graduates. Employment opportunities in the immigration office, external affairs and National Intelligence Service are especially active.

Dankook University, which was the first university in Korea to include a Department of Mongolian Studies, has fostered outstanding professionals and made a name for itself as the best professional educational organization for Mongolian studies. DKU has sisterhood relations with 4 Mongolian universities including the National University of Mongolia and is developing active exchange activities within the exchange student system. Last year, 7 graduates were specially employed as correction civil officers, and others are actively entering into areas like immigration in the Ministry of Justice, external affairs at the National Police Agency, the National Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the tourism industry, and trading companies.
