2 billion won will be supported to each campus, Jukjeon and Cheonan, totaling 4 billion won over 10 years
Focus will be on training creative engineers utilizing strengths of each campus

JukJeon and Cheonan Campus of Dankook University (President Hosung Chang) have been selected in the 2nd Stage of Support for the Center of Innovative Engineering Education Project which is supervised by MEST (Ministry of Education, Science and Technology) and KIAT (Korea Institution for Advancement of Technology). Each campus will receive up to 2 billion won in funding over the next 10 years from March 2012 to February 2022. A total of 4 billion won in government contribution will be funded.

Jukjeon Campus trains creative engineers through regional convergence with Dankook’s Innovative Engineering Education System

Jukjeon Campus will invest a total of 5.2 billion won of project budget (including government funding and Dankook’s matching funds) to pursue various engineering projects under the university’s goal to train creative engineers through the regional convergence with Dankook’s Innovative Engineering Education System.

To enhance students’ creative and practical skills, the university will implement a Capstone Design program, field practice program, educational convergence program, ICT convergence program integrating the university’s characteristics and regional strategic industry of Southeastern Gyeonggi Province, triple open program for liaison exchange with overseas and regional firms, and innovative employment/business foundation program. Also, Dankook will continue to exert efforts to offer high quality engineering education through the development of the Innovating Engineering Education System focusing on market demand.

To accomplish this, all departments in the College of Engineering at JukJeon Campus, the Department of Architectural Engineering, School of Business Administration, Department of Fashion Merchandise Design, regional governments (Gyeonggi Province, Yongin City) and cooperating companies (Hyosung, P&H Tech, Ventex, EMF Safety) are participating as partners to support associated projects.

Cheonan Campus produces collaborative global engineering experts

Cheonan Campus plans to enrich its learning environment through creative education, educational convergence, global open education, and industry customized education under the goal to produce collaborative global engineering experts focusing on industry-academic cooperation.

The campus will develop courses for the enhancement of creative education programs and educational convergence, while operating an entrepreneur program fostering creative ideas. Also, to produce talented engineers with industry specialization, Dankook will offer field education focusing on practical work, Capstone Design education taught by industry experts, and enhanced field study and internship programs

The university has also begun to increase the number and scope of programs in industry-academic collaboration through the establishment of the Innovative Engineering Education Program by the local government and the university. This program includes the Local Industry Development Program and pursues cooperative business through Centers for Innovative Engineering Education of universities in the Cheonan and Asan region. Through the program, industry-academic partnership will be activated by integrated joint research projects and material sharing, technical training for cooperative business and special lecture offerings.

For this, the Center for Innovating Engineering Education at Cheonan campus will establish a cooperative system incorporating 9 departments of the College of Engineering, related administrative sectors such as the Business Incubation Center and SME Industry-Academic Cooperation Center, local governments (Chungnam Province, Cheonan City), centers for innovative engineering education in local universities, and cooperative firms.

Meanwhile, all departments of engineering and architectural engineering at Jukjeon and Cheonan Campus are included in accreditation through ABEEK (Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea) and, as such, are recognized for their world class quality of engineering education. At present, centered around the Center for Innovative Engineering Education of both campuses, various efforts such as holding Capstone Design competitions, establishing infrastructure related to engineering education, and employing additional faculty are being prioritized to further improve engineering education quality at Dankook.

Note) Capstone Design (Creative integral design) Project
This is an integral design course to educate individuals in the creative design techniques related to industrial fields. Engineering students will learn the entire process of planning, designing, and producing industry systems, components or processes based on theories learned in undergraduate studies instead of writing a senior graduation thesis. This course will help engineering students solve the problems they will face in the field.
