Mongolia volunteer group sent for 11 days from June 30th,
Volunteered for medical, educational, and environmental improvement/ Delivered 3000 products.

Prior to traveling as volunteers to Mongolia this summer vacation, 61 members of a DKU volunteer group participated in a Foundation Ceremony at Student Union Hall of Cheonan Campus on June 15th at 5:30pm to prepare for 11 days of volunteer work starting on June 30th.
The volunteer group set up camp at ’88 School’ in the Naalaiheugu region about 30 km south-west of Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia’s capital). They planned various volunteer activities, including medical, educational, environmental improvement, etc.

13 dental medical volunteers composed of professors of the Dental College, nurses, and prosthetists performed dental examinations, tooth extractions, and nerve/prosthetic therapy on about 500 local residents.

The student volunteer group of selected individuals with various talents planned to provide education in Korean, English, Science, Physical Education and the Arts, as well as environmental improvement work such as LED electronic display installation, standing signboard installation, field lighting installation, instant water heater maintenance, and painting. Furthermore, 3000 products including bicycles, clothes, sports equipment and stationery items prepared by Dankook University were donated. Especially, it was impressive and heartwarming to see that students who participated in last year’s Mongolia volunteer activity prepared stationery sets for 88 school children.

Also, 10 Mongol National University students majoring in Korean and 20 Dankook University students who are studying abroad in Mongolia planned to meet to provide translation for the volunteer group and offer a chance for communication with the locals.

“This is the 6th Mongolia volunteer activity since 2007, and it is receiving compliments from local residents as an important volunteer activity comprising education and medicine,” said Vice President Jongjin Choi of Cheonan Campus, who attended the foundation ceremony for the overseas volunteer group. “I am planning to gradually expand overseas volunteering activities during vacation since it is a chance for students to experience the value of volunteering and to broaden their knowledge.”
