Dankook University builds new dental hospital, to be the largest in Korea’s central region
Expanded twice the size of original dental hospital, introduction of up-to-date medical devices
7 floors above ground and 1 underground, 26,000㎡ in size

The Dankook University Dental Hospital, which has contributed to the enhancement of dental health for citizens in the region for the last 29 years, will move into a newly constructed building, drastically expanding in size. The new hospital will become the largest dental hospital while housing the most advanced medical facilities among dental hospitals in South Korea’s central region.
For the expansion of education and research infrastructure in the dental medicine field, and for the improvement of the treatment environment in dental clinics, Dankook University began construction of the new dental college and annexed dental hospital in the vicinity of Dankook University in November, 2011. Subsequently, interior and exterior construction was completed last December, after which the university held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of the Dental Hospital at 11am this March 6th.

The Dankook University Dental College and annexed hospital have been newly constructed with 7 floors above ground and 1 underground floor, yielding a total floor area of 26,389.96㎡ (approximately 7983 pyeong), and being twice the size of the original dental hospital. The new hospital is the largest university dental hospital in the Daejeon and Chungnam regions. 11 treatment departments, such as the combined treatment department, dental surgery department, intra-oral surgery department, operative dentistry department, dental prosthetic department, periodontal department, orthodontic department, department of dentistry for children, preventive dentistry department, oral maxillofacial radiation department and department of anesthesiology, will be entering the DKU Dental Hospital, as well as an implant center, Chungnam oral treatment center for disabled people, painless consulting room, central operation room and more. Furthermore, a total of 188 staff members, including administrators and assistants, as well as 107 doctors, will be managed.

To provide high quality health care service, the Dankook University Dental Hospital has expanded to a newly built facility, also expanding its up-to-date medical devices. The hospital has constructed an operating room which enables general anesthesia, and additionally introduced expensive equipment such as whole body CT, minute microscopes, etc. Furthermore, by supplementing 44 unit chairs for dental treatment and extending the treatment facility so that it manages a total of 156 chairs, the hospital anticipates a reduction in individual patients’ treatment time. Also, together with the addition of all kinds of facilities for convenience and resting, the hospital can offer a much more pleasant treatment environment. The hospital has also created a new foundation structure for the training of excellent dental treatment staff. Education and research facilities such as lecture rooms, laboratories and a dental medicine library have been expanded, and numerous research apparatuses have also been procured.

Dankook University President Ho Sung Chang commented on the new facility. “Our excellent and talented students will be trained by using high tech facilities at the newly built Dental College and Dental Hospital, and the hospital will contribute to the community with its high quality health care. We are anticipating flexibility also in the specialized projects of the Dankook University Cheonan Campus in the BT field, which includes constructing Medicine Bio Clusters, such as our Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Medicine.

The Dankook University Dental College, which was established in 1980, has schooled approximately 2 thousand dentists until now, and the annexed dental hospital, which was opened in 1984, is offering the region’s people high quality dental health care including a 24 hour emergency treatment system, while developing a multitude of dental health projects. Of particular interest is the ‘Chungnam Oral Treatment Center for the Disabled,’ which was established with the support of the Ministry of Health in December, 2012, and is contributing to the treatment and health enhancement of disabled citizens in the Chungnam region who were previously in the blind spot for oral treatment.
