Implementation of official adjustments in curricular measures, acceleration of change in the campus system

For the strengthening of university competitiveness in reaction to the environmental changes in Korea’s high school educational environment and the university’s qualitative improvement, Dankook University has propelled adjustments in curricular measures since 2010. The essence of the adjustments lies in combining similar, overlapping departments existing in both campuses into separate affiliations according to the university’s specialization strategy. By communicating with parties affected by the 2013 college-wide organizational adjustment, approximately 70% of the departments out of the overlapping departments have been adjusted for the 1st round, and in 2014, the main campus / branch campus system will change to a single-entity, multi-campus system through the 2nd round of adjustments in curricular measures.
The adjustments in curricular measures are to be corroborated with the university’s specialization policy, and shall be reorganized so that Jukjeon Campus houses departments surrounding IT and CT, and Cheonan Campus houses BT and foreign languages. Jukjeon Campus will train students in the fields of humanities based on literature, history and philosophy, and in the fields of soft IT, practical engineering, social science, urban environment and architecture, and culture and the arts in line with the ideals of the university’s founding philosophy; whereas Cheonan Campus will train students in the fields of dentistry, pharmacology, life and basic sciences and foreign languages in the spirit of leading the next generation.

Reorganization of administrative departments and college institutions supporting the changes in the DKU campus system

Dankook University has a campus system adjustment ahead, and to support the effectiveness of the related changes, the university has carried out a reorganization of the administrative departments and college institutions. Administrative departments are being set according to the changes in the campus system and reorganized for effective college and resource support, and for this teams for separate administrative departments have been enforced and finalized so that effective management of focused results for each department is possible.
There are also a lot of changes being made in college institutions for the strengthening of educational competitiveness. From 2013, Dankook University has abolished the absolute evaluation system and changed to a relative evaluation for all courses except a few select specialized courses. Grade evaluation standards for course re-takes have also been adjusted, and in the case of course re-takes, a maximum grade of B+ is allowed. Furthermore, the grade correction system in which grade input and correction periods were set separately will be abolished in favor of a grade announcement system where the grade input and correction periods are combined. To improve lecture quality and amelioration of lecture satisfaction, the number of lecture evaluations per semester will be expanded to twice, and the standard lecture time of 50 minute lecture and 10 minute break will be changed to 30 minute modules to allow for more efficient and effective lecture attendance.
For other flexible lectures and courses, in regards to the sudden change to a smart environment and changes in campus systems, smart learning will also be introduced. DKU’s smart learning will primarily start with video lectures, and, after a necessary infrastructure construction stage, it will be enforced in separate stages. Firstly, lectures will be carried out with the construction of the video lecture system, and the introduction of video lectures for globally accredited engineering programs and mobile service support will take place. Henceforth, a lecture saving system will be composed in which lectures will be saved on an electronic device so that they can be listened to again.

Both campuses’ acquisition of the KCUE (Korean Council for University Education) sponsored ‘2012 University Institution Evaluation Certificate’

Both campuses at Dankook University (Jukjeon, Cheonan) acquired simultaneously the ‘2012 University Institution Evaluation Certificate’ implemented from the University Appraisal Board affiliated with the Korean Council for University Education (referred to as KCUE). The certification results are valid for 5 years from 2012 to 2017, and from 2014, will be applied to all sorts of administrative and financial affairs support projects. The University Institution Evaluation Certificate guarantees the quality of university education to the education recipients, and was first implemented in 2011 to induce continuous quality improvements at universities. The certification evaluation was carried out using the university’s mission and development plan, education, university members, educational facilities, university financial affairs and management, community service, etc., for a total of 17 evaluation fields in 6 evaluation domains against 54 evaluation indicators. Dankook University’s evaluation results satisfied all indicators of the 6 evaluation domains.

The best educational administrative support service offered, CS management center established

To offer the best educational administrative support service, the 2013 CS (Customer Satisfaction) management center was established. The CS management center is carrying out various management strategy assignments for improvements in quality as well as for enhancements in the customers’ interior and exterior satisfaction criteria. For this, a combined call center has been constructed and facilitated so that the college administration, university events and information, etc., can be obtained easily by inquirers. A variety of tasks, such as student monitoring organization operation, department and administrative department satisfaction investigation and CS training are being carried out.
The first combined call center among universities in Korea, DKU’s call center was opened on March 4th and consists of 3 professional consultants who respond to all sorts of civil complaints and counseling contents that come through the school’s main phone number [1899-3700] with rapidity, accuracy and courtesy to satisfy the needs of customers.
