Donation of 738 Chinese titles in humanities, social studies and law; DKU President Hosung Chang delivers a plaque of appreciation to ambassador Qiu Guohong (邱国洪)

Ambassador Qiu expresses hopes “to contribute to the advancement and exchanges between Korea and China, as well as Dankook University’s high quality education”

The Chinese Embassy in Korea donated 738 books to Dankook University as part of the Chinese government’s culture project which donates books to renowned universities and institutions in Korea.

The Chinese Embassy stated its understanding of “the historic importance that Dankook University carries as the first four-year private college in Korea following the country’s liberalization,” and added that it has been “deeply impressed by DKU’s research in oriental studies and education for arts as Dankook University has contributed to the advance of high quality education and bilateral exchanges between Korea and China” to explain the purpose behind the donation.

The humanities, social studies and law books in Chinese are currently housed at the DKU Toegye Memorial Library.

On Wednesday, June 7th, Dankook University invited Chinese ambassador Qiu Guohong to express gratitude and deliver an appreciation plaque for the book donation.

DKU President Hosung Chang said that “Dankook University currently has exchanges with Yantai University and Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute in China and would like to extend our areas of joint research to traditional arts and costume of our two countries.” In addition, he shared that “Peking University wishes to benchmark Dankook’s knowhow in industry-academia partnerships. There have been some difficulties due to deteriorating ties between Korea and China recently, but we believe active exchanges will be possible soon as relations are improving.”

Chinese ambassador Qiu Guohong said “(we) thank you for providing outstanding education to Chinese students studying in Korea and would like to continue to donate books to Dankook University going forward,” and went on to say that “if you request the titles the school needs, we will find the right book for donation.” Ambassador Qiu also expressed his expectations for restoring Korean-China relations saying, “Our bilateral relations are moving in a positive direction since the launch of the new administration in Korea. The education sector involving foreign students studying abroad are especially an area that can help us enhance our mutual understanding.”
