More than 150 foreign students from 16 countries and 650 DKU students took part in the DKU ISS program which led to forming of a little ‘global village.’

DKU ISS gains huge popularity worldwide for promoting cultural exchanges between foreign and domestic students.

Marking its 7th year, the various programs offered in the DKU ISS satisfied both foreign and domestic participants.

Summer is special at Dankook. The foreign students from 16 countries such as the U.S., Spain, Mexico and Taiwan built the ‘Dankook Global Village’ with DKU students.

This is the seventh year of the DKU ISS hosting international students to study side by side with Korean students and to learn Korean language and culture during summer break. The DKU ISS consists of various programs such as the Global Village, the Academic Program and a special program for science and engineering students from ASEAN countries.

The popularity of the DKU ISS has been increasing year after year for its language exchange program between foreign and domestic students as well as its Korean cultural experience program for foreign students.

Paul Kenedy, a 22-year old Irish student who took part in the ceramic arts class, said “One of my friends who participated in the DKU ISS recommended it to me very highly.” “I am so glad that I could make some Korean friends and have a firsthand experience of Korean culture such as ceramic arts,” he added.

DKU ISS teaches mobile computing techniques to science and engineering students from ASEAN countries

A notable feature of this year’s DKU ISS is that science and engineering students from ASEAN countries had come to take part in the program, together with other regular foreign participants. Last April, Dankook University was designated as one of the host universities for the ‘2015 GKS for ASEAN countries’ Science and Engineering students’ project which was organized by the National Institute for International Education of the Ministry of Education. Dankook University received the highest score among the universities around the capital area for its qualified management system for international students and high standard of infrastructure.

Consequently, 20 selected students from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia took mobile systems engineering classes at Dankook University from July 16 to August 14. The classes offered were Fundamental of Mobile Computing and Introduction of Mobile Technology and Trends.
