Undaunted by failure, successful entrepreneur shares his support for alma mater SLB Korea’s Ju-bak Chung donates 100 million KRW

On June 27th, Dankook University alumni Ju-bak Chung (freshman class of ’78, Department of Korean Language and Literature), CEO of SLB Korea, presented an agreement to donate 100 million KRW at the DKU President’s office at the Jukjeon Campus. The donation will be made by adding 20 million KRW to the University Development Fund every year for 5 years.

DKU officials including DKU President Hosung Chang, Executive Vice President for External Affairs Daeshik Kang, Dean Dong-seob Song of the DKU Business School and SLB Korea CEO Ju-bak Chung attended the Development Fund ceremony.

The ceremony was modest and held in a comfortable atmosphere where Chung shared stories about his journey to becoming a successful businessman.

Chung never gave up despite endless failures along the way. He started off selling fruit from a 1 ton pickup truck and then went into the grocery business, opened an accessory shop, gimbap store and even a bakery before finally entering the sandwich business in 1996. Endless efforts and research afterwards brought him to where he is today – the CEO of a well-known franchise with 2 brands,
15 merchants nationwide and a 2,500 pyong factory.

Chung said that “there have been many hardships and suffering, but thanks to wonderful teachers, I was able to graduate from college and gain the strength to pursue my business,” and added that “it is truly worthwhile to be able to make a small contribution to my alma mater. If the opportunity is given, I would like to continuously provide support (to the university).”
