‘The Seeds of Violence,’ a film from the graduate class of Dankook’s Graduate School of Cinematic Contents (DGC), was awarded the grand prize in the Korean competition division of the 18th Jeonju International Film Festival.

‘The Seeds of Violence’ depicts a day in the life of the main character who is a victim of abuse within the military when he goes on leave with the rest of his platoon. It shows common violence found within military organizations and how the main character tries to deal with it. The film also draws attention to how violence can penetrate people’s minds and was praised for raising awareness that violence is not a matter that can be tackled by a single individual.

This film holds special meaning, especially because it is the collaborative work of DGC students. Director Im Taegyu (5th graduate class), producer Park Hae-oh (5th graduate class) and screenwriter Moon Gwangbaek (5th graduate class) were in charge of the overall production of the film. DGC extended 50 million KRW to support film production costs while professors offered first-hand guidance starting from the screenplay development stages to extend full-support for students to express their artistic creativity through cinematic production.

Director Im Taegyu explained that “being able to have students majoring in directing, producing and screenplay writing work together to produce a film is one of the unique features and advantages of DGC,” and added that “[we] were able to create a great production by complementing each other’s strengths and relying on each other with a shared purpose.”
